Join Iona for her day-long retreat on Knoydart peninsula ‘Songs By The Sea’. Hosted in collaboration with Knoydart Community Farm CIC, Iona will help you explore connections to the landscape you find yourself in. You’ll be greeted off the boat with teas/coffees before setting off on a Song Walk with Iona, in which she will perform a selection of her songs that are inspired by the landscape. Lunch will be provided, using produce from the Knoydart Farm. (Please let us know any dietary requirements upon booking). In the afternoon Iona will lead a songwriting workshop followed by a singing workshop. All abilities welcome whether you are writing your first song or a seasoned songwriter! We would love to welcome you to ‘Songs By The Sea’. Bring your wellies, a notebook, an instrument if you like, and an open mind!
About Iona:
Iona Lane is a Knoydart-based folk singer and songwriter. Her latest album Swilkie weaves ecology, conservation, islands and folklore into poetic songs and contemplative melodies. Written during three residencies on the Isle of Eigg, Isle of Mull and Sanday in Orkney, sense of place and landscape are at the core of these songs. From basking sharks to lighthouses, lichen to vanishing islands, curlews to tree planting; the album was recorded in a boathouse on the West Coast of Scotland and the eager listener may even hear the lapping sound of the tide murmuring through the album. Iona’s connection to places by the sea is translated through these songs with evolving vocal melodies, subtle guitar and droning shruti box. Iona is the founder of the Humankind Songwriting Retreat in which she leads workshops on songwriting and performance in a residential setting.
